Welcome to Dorothy C. Goodwin Elementary School!

Greetings and welcome to the Goodwin website which we hope is helpful to you as you learn more about our learning community that supports 182 students, pre-kindergarten through grade four.  We are a diverse community near the University of Connecticut with twenty different languages represented by our students and families.  Our neighborhood school has a rich legacy of best-supporting all students in their academic, artistic, social/emotional, and physical progress.  Students are supported by caring, talented staff members in developmentally appropriate programs and classes.  We are a 2015 U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School in acknowledgment of our high-yield instructional practices and academic achievement and growth.  The Connecticut Association of Schools recently recognized Goodwin for Exemplary School Climate Practices.

Goodwin School embraces the importance of 21st Century Skills which give students voice, choice, and agency in learning, service, and play.  Students participate in project-based learning units and are provided opportunities to participate in various clubs and activities including optional “lunch and learns” where students can explore robotics and other STEM related topics.

While Goodwin prepares students to be middle-school ready with college-career vision, we are a school that celebrates tradition, creativity, and play.  Year after year, our school-wide events and activities celebrate our students and families while providing opportunities to connect, build community, learn, and play.  Goodwin’s traditions include annual events such as the Trestle Tree climbing challenge, the annual slip and slide day, sock hop dances, and the spring Whale Bash Festival.  Our active Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is an important leadership group that supports our school in many ways.

Please continue to explore and use this website, but do not hesitate to call our office or visit the school should you need additional support or information.  We welcome you and want you to know how happy we are to provide support and service to you and your child.
