Ice Cream Adventures in Mansfield
July 9, 2018 – The Town of Mansfield and the Mansfield Downtown Partnership invite residents and visitors to celebrate National Ice Cream Month by visiting their local creameries and ice cream shops!
Mansfield is home to several businesses serving up cold treats year-round. The Farmer’s Cow Calfe (86 Storrs Road, Mansfield Center) is proud to serve their own ice cream, made from milk sourced from the six family farms in eastern Connecticut that make up the Farmer’s Cow. Bring your appetite: In addition to ice cream, hungry visitors can indulge in a variety of sandwiches, wraps, paninis, soups, and salads. And, be sure to check out their unique milk bar featuring an ever-changing selection of flavored milks!
If you’d like to enjoy your ice cream with a view, head over to the Red Barn Creamery at Stearns Farm Stand (483 Browns Road, Storrs). Try some homemade ice cream and take in the scenes of rolling hills of farmland. Get your grocery shopping done, too! Stearns Farm Stand offers local native fruit and vegetables, pies, breads, yogurt, milk, and more!
For a modern approach to ice cream, visit Ice Monster in Downtown Storrs (34 Wilbur Cross Way, next to Bliss). Ice Monster creates treats that look as great as they taste! Watching them make the Thai-style rolled ice cream is an experience all its own. Choose from a variety of ice cream flavors, from chocolate and strawberry to matcha and red bean. Add as many toppings as you wish!
The most quintessential Mansfield ice cream experience is arguably found at the UConn Dairy Bar (3636 Horsebarn Hill Road Extension, Storrs). The Dairy Bar makes its ice cream from milk from UConn’s own dairy herd and cream from Mountain Dairy in Storrs. You can take a peek at the ice cream being made while you contemplate your order. The Dairy Bar offers a rotating menu with some standards available year-round and others just seasonally. Enjoy your treats inside in the retro-cool space or outside at one of the many picnic tables. Or, stroll over to Horsebarn Hill, say hello to the cows, and take a walk around one of the most picturesque spots on the UConn campus!
Celebrate National Ice Cream Month during Mansfield Family Fun Night at the Mansfield Community Center on Friday, July 25. Family Fun Night will take place from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM with a theme of “Create your own ice cream sundae!” This program is free for Community Center members; non-members pay the regular day-use fee. There is no additional fee for your sundae!
