Building Permits
Building Permits are required to construct, enlarge, alter, or demolish a structure, change the occupancy of a structure requiring greater strength, exit or sanitary provisions, or change to another use, or to install or alter any equipment when regulated by the Code.

Types of building permits include:
- Building (such as but not limited to: New Construction, Additions, Alterations, Decks)
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)
- Demolition
- Swimming Pools
- Spa/Hot Tubs
- Signs
- Woodstoves/Pellet Stoves
You must be logged in with a registered account in order to upload documents. If you have not created an account, create an account with the same email you used to apply for your permit.
- Click the "Apply for a Building Permit" link above to reach the permit portal.
- Click "My Account" in the upper right-hand corner.
- Choose the permit you would like to upload documents to. Click to open the permit.
- Click "Documents" at the top of the pop-up.
- Click "Choose Files" and choose the file you wish to upload.
- Give the file a description (optional).
- Click "Upload File."
You can only upload one file at a time.
You can check the status of your permit application at any time on our portal if you have created an account. This also allows you to download your building permit once your application has been approved.
To see the status:
- Log in to your account.
- Click "My Account" in the upper right-hand corner.
- Choose the permit you'd like to see the status of.
- The status is located on the left-hand side of the pop-up menu.
What do the statuses mean:
- Web Created: You created the application, and our team has not had a chance to review.
- Created: We accepted your application, and our team is reviewing your application.
- Issued: Your permit has been issued.
To download a document and/or Building Permit Card:
- Log in to your account.
- Click "My Account" in the upper right-hand corner.
- Choose the permit you would like to get the document from.
- Click "Documents" at the top of the pop-up.
- Scroll down to the "Case Documents."
- Click the "Download" button on the document you'd like to download.
- Building permits are labeled "BldgCard".
Use this to search for a permit status. This is a general search and can be used without a registered account.
If you are a contractor or applicant looking for the status of a permit you applied for, please see the instructions under "How to Check Application Status & Download Permits."
- Click the "Apply for a Building Permit" link above to reach the permit portal.
- Click "Case Status."
- Put the address in the "Address" box. We recommend putting in the number and street only.
For example: 123 Storrs instead of 123 Storrs Rd - Click "Search."
- You can also filter by permit date range, permit number, and owner name.
While this varies depending on the scope of work, we do need a few items consistently.
When you apply, please be prepared to:
- Upload your Workers' Compensation Insurance or appropriate 7A, B, or C form, which can be found on the State's Website. Please follow "How to Upload Documents" to upload these documents.
- Remit payment. This can be remitted via the online portal or you can choose "Print an estimate" and mail a check to:
